Clean & Safe Launches Online

SAN DIEGO, September 8, 2005 - The Downtown San Diego Partnership Clean & Safe Program, funded by Downtown property owners and operating with an agreement with the City of San Diego to provide enhanced maintenance and safety related services in the Downtown public right of way, is launching their own website, sdcleanandsafe.org. The website will provide online access to additional information about the Clean & Safe program and the services Clean & Safe provides 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Visitors to the site can expect to find valuable information about Clean & Safe programs, descriptions and schedules of service, maps of Downtown neighborhoods, service request options and more. The website also includes a survey, so that Clean & Safe can evaluate how the Downtown community feels about services being rendered.

"The goal in launching this website is to share information about Clean & Safe to our constituents; Downtown property owners, as well as residents, businesses and visitors. We want everyone to understand who we are, what our areas of responsibility are and how we can help them, so they can get the most out of the services we offer," said Stewart Payne, Clean & Safe Executive Director. The Clean & Safe Program was formed in July of 2000. "Thanks to the leadership and guidance of the Downtown San Diego Partnership and our hard-working Maintenance and Safety Ambassadors I feel that Clean & Safe has made a very positive impact on the cleanliness and safety of Downtown San Diego, which is no small task considering the mixed use nature of Downtown San Diego and the high rate of redevelopment," said Payne.

As Downtown San Diego's unique urban setting continues to attract new businesses and residents alike the Clean & Safe's website, sdcleanandsafe.org, will prove a powerful tool for the Downtown Community to learn information about maintenance and safety related issues.

About the Clean & Safe Program

With a desire to improve the business climate and quality of life in Downtown San Diego, property owners and the Downtown San Diego Partnership launched the Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) in July of 2000. Funded through property tax assessments, the PBID established the Clean & Safe Program to improve the appearance of Downtown's sidewalks and enhance public safety for residents, employees and visitors alike.

On June 14th, 2005 the Clean & Safe Program was renewed by a vote of Downtown property owners to a ten year contract with the City of San Diego to continue to provide enhanced maintenance and safety related services in the Downtown public right of way. This positive vote by property owners means that Clean and Safe will not only continue to operate 24 hours a day, but it will now also be able to expand services - specifically it will increase maintenance personnel from 17 full time employees to 37; expand sidewalk power washing services to all neighborhoods; and greatly increase sidewalk sweeping and landscape maintenance.

The Clean & Safe Program maintains one of the largest service areas for a PBID in the nation. Added together the five Downtown neighborhoods account for 5,330 parcels; 269,622 linear feet of street frontage; 1,657 enhanced, special benefit lighting poles; over 300 trash receptacles; 990 regular sidewalks; and 98 enhanced sidewalks.
