Downtown San Diego Community Court
The Downtown Community Court was implemented in October 2002 to address quality of life crimes being committed in downtown San Diego neighborhoods, in an effort to protect the economic, social, and cultural viability of city life. The Downtown Community Court utilizes a non-traditional innovative approach to deal with non-violent misdemeanor offenders. Offenders are provided the opportunity to "pay" their debt back to the community through community work service, rehabilitation, and education. The Downtown Community Court benefits taxpayers by reducing recidivism in designated areas. Other benefits of the Downtown Community Court include: cleaner and safer downtown neighborhoods, community involvement in the criminal justice process, and accountability and supervision by the Property and Business Improvement District (PBID).

Dog Stations Downtown
As more residents move to Downtown San Diego there will be a corresponding increase in pets, especially dogs. To both assist dog owners and encourage them to clean up after their pets the Downtown Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) Management Committee funds the "Dog Stations Downtown" program, which is administered by the Clean & Safe program. Clean & Safe Ambassadors replenish over 60 stations in all five Downtown neighborhoods with doggie bags purchased with funding they provide. The unobtrusive dog stations dispense scented blue bags used for picking up animal waste. The dog stations are found throughout Downtown, particularly near parks, and are always conveniently located near trash cans.
Work Your Way Home
The Work Your Way Home (WYWH) Program is designed to identify and assist those people who find themselves homeless and stuck in San Diego. Some people come to San Diego looking for a better life, and instead find disappointment. A person in this situation who wants to return home to be reunited with family or a support structure in their original communities will be given a short term job opportunity to work and earn a bus voucher for that return trip home.
In addition to helping a person down on their luck start over, WYWH also lightens the impact on all our community emergency response services, such as police, fire, rescue teams and homeless services, by providing destitute persons the opportunity to go home. WYWH also offers local businesses a pool of labor workers (many of whom will be working to clean the sidewalks of downtown) and the opportunity to participate in addressing the issue of homelessness in Downtown San Diego.
